Merl Lee Clontz, 84, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Carolinas Medical Center – Union in Monroe. Mr. Clontz was born July 3, 1928 in Mecklenburg County to the late John Lester Clontz and Bessie Jane Wilson Clontz. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Essie Bell “Sis†Kiker Clontz in 1987; three brothers, Harold Clontz, Bland Clontz, Buck Clontz; and four sisters, Verla Honeycutt, Thelma Allen, Fodie Furr, and Dean Price. The family will receive friends from 3 – 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Hopewell Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his sons, Gary Clontz and Merl Delane “Billy†Clontz. Memorials may be made to Oakland Baptist Church, 600 East Sunset Drive, Monroe, NC 28112.
