Merle Pigg

Merle Phillips Pigg, 86 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Merle was born on June 23, 1929, in Mecklenburg County to the late Banah Uriah Pigg and the late Carrie Phillips Pigg. He graduated from Bethel High School in Cabarrus County. He retired from Sunbelt Outdoor Products as a Salesman where his territory included the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. For many years, he was their top Salesman.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26. 2016, at Arlington Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary officiated by Rev. Steve Gandy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery at 9801 Arlington Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Griffin Pigg. Survivors include Ronald P. (Cheryl) Pigg of Charlotte, NC, Carol P. (Zane) Hall of Matthews, NC, Kent A. Pigg (Stephen Pantin) of Atlanta, GA, and Bryan L. Pigg of Charlotte, NC.; grandchildren, Chris (Emily) Davis, Chad (Tara) Davis, Jeremy Pigg, Drew Pigg and Lauren Pigg; great-grandchildren, Bailey Davis, Brenna Davis, Zachary Loebs, Raylan Davis, Gavin Davis, Ella Davis and Parker Davis.

He loved to sing and thoroughly enjoyed Southern Gospel Music. He was a lifetime member of Arlington Baptist Church where he served years ago in the Choir and as a Usher.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Employees of the Walmart on Albemarle Road, where he would go daily to walk for exercise and they made him feel like a special friend.
