Michael Carl Propst, of Concord NC, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 13, 2012, while in residence at Avante of Concord. Mr. Propst was born in Charlotte, NC October 8, 1940, to Roy Clyde and Betty Groth Propst. He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Rick. He spent his childhood in the state of New York, moving to Salisbury at the age of eleven. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools, Central Piedmont College and North Carolina State University. After serving as a US Navy Seal, he was a farmer for several years. Following that, he traveled in South East Asia and South America as a Manufacturer's Representative teaching people how to install and operate textile machinery. Mr. Propst was a nature lover and spent some years as a volunteer Master Gardener with the Cabarrus County Extension service. He is survived by his wife, Peggy W. Propst; a son, Timothy Michael Propst and his wife Penny of Winston-Salem, NC; a step-son, Timothy L. Grant and his wife Angela, of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Jessica Grant and Brandon Grant of Charlotte, NC. In addition, he is survived by two brothers Patrick, Wilmington, NC and Gregory and his wife Margie, Salisbury, NC; and one sister Laura Joyce, Wilmington, NC; nieces Amanda Propst and Kim Ellington and nephew Perry Propst. At his request there will be no funeral service or visitation. Memorials should be sent to the Humane Society of Concord & Cabarrus County, 244 General Services Drive, Concord, NC 28025.
