Mike White

Mr. Mike Wise White 88 of Concord, NC passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord. Born on March 22, 1921 in Cabarrus County to the late William Scott White and the late Gladys (Blackwelder) White, he was the 2nd oldest child to be born. He was a member of Wilmar Park Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. During his life Mike accomplished many things. He served in the 3rd Army, 100th Division from 1942-46 first as a cook and later as a combat medic, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge. He continued his US Army traditions by participating in the annual Veteran’s Day parade held in Raleigh. After returning home Mike worked for Kerr Bleachery before going to Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Carolina’s Medical) where he retired after 20 years of service as an electrical supervisor. Never having an idle moment Mike found ways to help his community by being a charter member of the Winecoff Volunteer Fire Dept., even serving as Captain for a number of years. He took his love for the Atlanta Braves to hometown fields by coaching a girl’s championship softball team for Wilmar Baptist Church for 8 years. Later coaching 2 years of soccer for the Earnhardt Wranglers. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed deer hunting, and fishing, never giving up the dream of returning to the pier on Oak Island. Mike wed Mrs. Lula Barbee White on December 20th, 1941, together they had 2 children. The family meeting place will be at the home of daughter Judy at 2311 Grandhaven Drive Concord, NC. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Concord on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 5 PM until 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel Concord on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11 AM, with the Rev. Tom Smith, and the Rev. Earl Barringer officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.Graveside military honors will be performed by The Cabarrus County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Survived by: wife, Lula B. White of the home; son, Larry White and wife Sabrina of Concord; daughter, Judy White McDonald of Concord; brothers, Bob White of Concord, and Earl White of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Lillian Griffith of Charlotte, and Carol Drye of Concord; grandchildren, Tammy White, Lisa Hammill and husband Dwayne, Jeff White and wife Tia, Michael Morton, and Matt McDonald; great-grandchildren, Alyson Hammill, and Brenden Johnson; and step granddaughter, Christina Herndon.
