Mildred Blackwelder

Mrs. Mildred Christine “Milly” Hellen Blackwelder 92 of 99 Pitts School Road Concord passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Universal Healthcare in Concord. Born on January 14, 1917 in Craven County in Vanceboro, NC to the late John Hellen and the late Mamie Manson Hellen. She was also preceded in death by her husband Arthur L. "Ott" Blackwelder, Sr. who died in February of 1978. Mrs. Blackwelder attended Mars-Hill College, then graduated from UNC-Greensboro. She retired from the Cabarrus County School System with 53 years of service, having taught first grade at Coltrane-Webb, A.T. Allen, Hartsell, and Wolf Meadow Schools. Mrs. Blackwelder received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor of North Carolina. She was a member of Roberta United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held at Roberta United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 3 PM until 4 PM. Funeral services will follow at 4 PM at the church, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survived by: son, Arthur L. "Buzz" Blackwelder, Jr. and wife Cindy of Carolina Shores, NC; daughters, Alice B. Blackwelder and husband Lewis of Concord, and Vivian B. Bennick also of Concord; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
