Mildred Curlee Cooper, 92, of Sanford, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Cooper was born October 24, 1926 in Stanly County to the late Otha Charles Curlee and the late Retta Harris Curlee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lee Cooper; sister, Geraldine Curlee Denning; and brother Joe Harold Curlee.

Mildred was a former teacher and guidance counselor. In 2014, several of her former players from the girl's basketball team at Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC established a scholarship in her name to support student athletes at UNC-Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Albemarle, 202 N. 2nd Street in Albemarle. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Harold McDonald. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.

Survivors include daughters, Marla Cooper Stewart and Susan Cooper both of Sanford; sister, Carolyn Curlee Hill of Oakboro; granddaughter, Leslie Stewart of Sanford; and many special nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a local hospice organization of the donor's choice.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Cooper family.
