Mildred Council

Mildred Powell Council, 87, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC. A native of Lake Waccamaw, N.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Averitte Powell and Sallie L. Nance.

Mrs. Council touched many lives in her over 40 years of teaching at Harrisburg Elementary School in Harrisburg, N.C., and was the most kindhearted mother and grandmother. She majored in home economics at East Carolina University and eventually went back to pursue a second degree in History at UNC Charlotte. She was a wonderful woman who expressed her kindness in a million small, beautiful ways, as well as an amazing cook and baker who loved to share her cooking with family and friends.

In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time cooking and baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Council is survived by son Carl Jennings Council Jr. and wife Donna, son Joseph Neal Council and wife Erica, daughter Caroline Denise Council, and four grandchildren - Jeffrey Council, Madison Council, Michelle Council, and Carl Council

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Jennings Council Sr.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, 4815 NC-49 in Harrisburg, N.C., on Wednesday December 27 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte.
