Mildred Ceretha House Duncan, of Dallas, TX, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 after a long battle with lung disease. Mildred was born in 1933 in Charlotte, N.C. to Viola Josephine Hickman House and William Henry House. After her father’s early death, she was brought up in the loving home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Marasi. She attended Furman University and the University of Tennessee, Memphis Branch. She married Bobby B. Duncan in 1948. After many moves during his career with Colgate, they settled in Richardson, TX in 1969. Mildred was active in PEO and a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. In 1962, she was awarded a lifetime membership in the United Women of the Lutheran Church in recognition of her volunteer work at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville, S.C. She began her banking career in the 1960’s at the then South Carolina National Bank. She retired from North Dallas Bank and Trust after a 26-year career, where she served as a drive-in teller and moved her way up to Assistant Vice President. Mildred was most known for her role as mother, “Nanaâ€, and friend. She was so proud of and dedicated to her kids and grandkids. Some of her most outstanding qualities were loyalty, compassion, and encouragement. She would go to the ends of the Earth and back for those she loved. She was a proud survivor of cancer and a fighter until the very end. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Duncan; sons and their spouses, Bruce and Mary Ann Duncan, Marc and Donna Duncan; granddaughters and their spouses, Blake and Rachel Phillips, and Joe and Katy Tillotson; grandson, Michael Duncan; step granddaughter, Lacey Chaney; great-grandchildren, Avi, Amelia, Kennedy, Lauren and Patrick; brother and his wife, Joe R. and Stephanie House; special friends, Marty Colley, Christi Mowery, Mary Martin, Madalyn Ormsby, Elaine Noto, Jessie Bray, Marylynn Clark and many more. A visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Hopewell Baptist Church of Monroe. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Emmanuel Cemetery of Indian Trail.
