Mildred Russ

Mildred Virginia Miller Russ, 92, 0f Concord passed away Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Brian Center in Concord from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a loving, caring, wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was affectionately called “Granny” by all who knew her and will be forever missed. Mildred was born June 27, 1920, the last of 10 children, to Robert and Rosa Belle Misenheimer Miller. Her parents were sharecroppers and had lived all over Cabarrus County. She often said her dad moved them every time the moon changed. Mildred retired from the former Cannon Mills Co. in 1982, Plant 6 spinning room. She was a longtime member of Broadus Memorial Baptist Church from its beginning in a cabinet shop and attended faithfully until her health failed. Mildred is survived by her three sons; Larry Russ (Doris) of Lake Tillery NC, Darrell Russ (Wanda) of Mt. Pleasant NC, and Johnny Russ of Salisbury NC; her three daughters, Carolyn Smith (Thurman) of Hemingway SC, Joyce Measimer (Stacy) and Anne Measimer (Rick), both of Concord. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Alan Measimer, Karen Thomas, Jamie Naylor, Chris Measimer, Sherri Smith, Melissa Woodard, Marilyn Britt, and Keegan Russ; and her 13 great grandchildren; Justin and Jason Measimer, Adam and Kate Measimer, Shana and Nathan Deaton, Meagan and Dylan Woodard, Rachel Naylor, Emily and Matthew Britt, Cameron and Austin Thomas. She was preceeded in death by her husband William Burdette Russ, who died July 31, 1965. Also preceeding were her 9 siblings; Bertie Kelley, Martha Penninger, Eulabelle “Tennie” Brawley, Delvada Beaver, Marie Hess, Minnie Love, Lloyd Miller, Lewis Miller, and Margaret Dabbs. Visitation was March 23, 2013 from 10 to 11:00 at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, with the service following immediately after. The Rev. Rodney Quesenberry and David Beaver officiated. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the family. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Brian Center, Concord for their care and kindness to our mom over the past five years. It was obvious that she was well loved and cared for by everyone. Their love and compassion during this time has been a blessing.
