Minnie Hinson

Minnie Lorraine Dorton Hinson, 86, of Concord, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at CMC-Northeast in Concord. Minnie was born on February 2, 1926 in Cabarrus County, to the late Robert Lee and Ila Mae Clay Dorton. A 1943 graduate of W.R. Odell High School, she was employed as a secretary in the Kerr Bleachery dye house office for 35 years, from 1943 until 1978. Minnie later worked at Organic Chemical Company and Log Cabin Fish Camp. A lover of children, she then served as a teacher’s assistant at Odell Elementary School and in school food service at Royal Oaks Elementary School until her retirement. A member of Concord First Assembly, Minnie was an avid gardener, having won numerous ribbons for her crafts and flowers at the Cabarrus County Fair for over thirty years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death in 1983 by her husband of 27 years, Concord radio personality Gene Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Arrowood, and brothers-in-law Bill Arrowood, Dan Chochran and Crawford Porter. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Sandy Morris and husband Tommy; sisters, Mary Ella Porter and Lula Belle Cochran; grand-children, Brittany and Brooke Morris, all of Concord. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Saturday 12-2pm on December 15, 2012. Service will follow at 2pm in the Chapel. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
