Monzell Coley

Mrs. Monzell B. Coley, age 82, of Albemarle, NC, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Carolinas HealthCare System-NorthEast, in Concord, NC. Her service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Coley was born March 23, 1934 in Stanly County, NC to the late Burch Elem Burris and Annie Mae Belle Huneycutt Burris. In addition to her parents, Monzell was preceded in death by her husband, John Coley, brother, Joe Lee Burris and daughter-in-law, Brenda Coley.
Monzell worked for more than 40 years at Stanly Knitting Mills in Oakboro, NC. After retiring, she spent the next 20 years caring for children at Susie's Friends Daycare in Albemarle, NC.
Monzell was an avid gardener who spent most of her evenings outside caring for her rose bushes, plants and shrubbery at her home in the Endy community.
Mrs. Coley is survived by her son, Toby Coley and wife, Ann, of Norwood, sisters, Mary Schreppel, Ruby Hudson and Susie Bowers, all of Albemarle; grandchildren, Rachel Barkley of Bartow, FL, Matthew Coley of Locust and Mark Coley of Norwood. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Cody Barkley, Sarah Barkley and Greyson Coley.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Coley family.
