Morris Whitley

Morris Alexander Whitley, 91 years of age, of Concord, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Morris was born December 6, 1924 in North Carolina to the late Lonnie Alexander Whitley, and the late Flonnie Mae Love Whitley. He was also preceded in death by wife, Ruby Lee Hagler Whitley; son, Nick Whitley; brothers Ronnie Whitley, Wayne Whitley; and sister Lucille Overcash. He was gifted in gardening and always had a large vegetable garden that he would give to his family, friends, and neighbors. He was ordained as a Deacon at Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Boone, NC. The joys of his life were his God, and his family. He really enjoyed family time. He worked at Douglas Aircraft for 10 years, and built the pedestal for the Honest John Missile. He also worked at Specialty Dyers for 25 years as a supervisor in the finishing department.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm, Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A graveside service will follow Sunday at 3:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Rev. Jessie Watkins.
Survivors include son, Chris (Deb) Whitley of Leesville, SC; son, Mark (Karen) Whitley of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Penny (Norman) Negre of Rockwell, NC; daughter-in-law, Becky Whitley of Concord, NC; brother, Arlie Whitley of Stanfield, NC; brother, Aubrey Whitley of Albemarle, NC; sister, Minnie Lou Baucom of Monroe, NC; sister, Kay Hevens of Albemarle, NC; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; best friend, Betty Clontz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus Couty at 5003 Hospice Ln, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
