Mr. Gatha Austin
June 27, 1926 — August 3, 2016
Gatha Gay Austin, 90 years of age, of Locust, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Mr. Austin was born June 27, 1926 in Stanly County to the late Jacob Archelus Austin and the late Betty Hill Austin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ramelle Teeter Austin in 2000; and twenty brothers and sisters.
Mr. Austin coached youth football and baseball for over twenty years in both Stanly and Cabarrus Counties.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Berea Baptist Church at 100 Berea Baptist Church Road, Stanfield. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:00 PM officiated by Rev. Jody Wetta and Rev. Keith Austin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include wife, Betty Barnhardt; sons, Dale Austin and wife Cathy and Tony Austin and wife Kathy; daughters, Belinda Polk Austin and Cathy Ann Austin; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
