Nancy Matheson

Nancy Christine Hewitt Matheson, 84 years of age, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Peak Resources-Pinelake in Carthage. Nancy was born June 9, 1929 in Iredell County, NC to the late John Henry Hewitt and the late Sarah Essie Witherspoon Hewitt. She was also preceded in death by husband of 55 years, David Eli Matheson, who passed away in 2004; brothers, J.H., Coyt, Joseph, and Ray Hewitt; and sisters, Irene Ballard and Frances McKinnis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 3:00 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Wise and husband Jon of Shelby, and Debbie Gordon and husband Robert of Carthage; grandsons, Matthew Wise, Ryan Gordon, and Jonathan Wise; granddaughter, Laura Gordon; sister, Annie Pearl Loftin; and brothers, Grover and Boose Hewitt. Nancy worked in telecommunications at IBM. She was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and a long time member of the Eastern Star.
