Nauford Cullen Phipps, 89, of Concord, was lovingly cared for by his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Cassie during his brief illness as he peacefully passed away on July 6, 2022.
Nauford “Cullen” Phipps was born on January 18, 1933 in New York City, NY to Osman and Kate Phipps. He was the second of three children. He, along with his siblings Edward and Evelyn were all educated in the New York Public Schools; and he was a lifelong member of Ephesus SDA Church.
He matriculated to attend Emmanuel Missionary College (Andrews University) in Michigan. He later graduated from Baruch College with a degree in Business Administration.
Cullen chose to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was based in El Paso Texas for almost 4 years.
In 1963, Cullen married the love of his life, Marion “Claudette” Phipps. They went on to have two children, Leslie and Jeffrey. He spent the majority of his career with the New York City Health Department, as a data analyst. Upon retirement, Cullen continued with his love for woodworking, travel and spending time with his grandchildren Jalen, Jordan and Kennedy.
After the passing of his daughter and wife, he semi-transitioned to life in North Carolina, where he spent his last five years.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in The Jeff Hartsell Memorial Chapel.
