Nell Higgins

Nell Barringer Higgins, 92 years of age, of Concord, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at The Gardens of Taylor Glen in Concord.

Nell was born April 18, 1924 in North Carolina to the late John David Barringer and Cora Graham Barringer. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years in January 2016, Harry Rico Higgins; three brothers, Herman Barringer, Ray Barringer, Ira "Doc" Barringer; and one sister, Fannie Blackwelder.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will start at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service in the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Alice (Todd) Smith of Harrisburg, Corinne Higgins (Ralph) Cooper of Lewisville; sons, Harry Rico "Rick" Higgins of Harrisburg, Jesse Carl (Jean) Higgins of Apex; grandchildren, Scott (Erin) Cooper of Roanoke, VA, Daniel Cooper of Philadelphia, PA, Austin & Seth Higgins of Apex, Christopher & Dylan Smith of Harrisburg; great grandson, Grayson Cooper of Roanoke, VA, brothers, Earl Barringer of Concord and Joe Barringer of Concord; sister, Norma Clements of Durham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Nell was a lifelong member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church serving as the church historian and was a member of the women of the church and church choir. She retired from Southern Railroad. Nell was a quilter, basket weaver and enjoyed crafts, cooking and ballroom dancing with her husband Harry. Above all, she enjoyed loving her family, church friends, and the community of friends at The Garden of Taylor Glenn, Concord. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Taylor Glenn for their care and love provided to Nell during her stay.
