Nelson Williams

Nelson Gerald Williams, 55 years of age, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at his home while fighting his battle with cancer for the third time.

Nelson was born August 18, 1959 in Union County to the late Albert Cray Williams and Lela Mae Hinson Williams of Monroe. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Williams.

The graveside service, officiated by Rev. George Gouge, will be at 5 pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 6223 Love Mill Rd., Monroe. Military honors will be conducted by the Veteran's Council of Union County and the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. At other times the family will be gathering at his home, and the home of his mother Lela Mae Williams.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Lee Thomas Williams of the home; son, Ethan Porter of Chicago, IL, stepson, Edward Thomas and wife Kelly of Indian Trail; stepdaughters; Kristin Thomas of Monroe, and Samantha Jordan and husband Bryan of Wingate; eight grandchildren, Matthew Capan, Makenna Capan, Drayton Harris, Drionna Ross, Brittani Thomas, Rhianna Jordan, Korbyn Jordan, and Silas Jordan; sisters, Brenda Haigler of Monroe, Norma Norman and husband Bob of Indian Trail, Elaine Latham and husband Howard of TN, and Roberta Noah of AL; sister-in-law, Edna Williams of TX; and special sister-in-law, Ann Turner of SC.

Nelson loved his horses, the mountains, and driving his truck. He was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church.
