Nola Whitley

Nola B. Barbee Whitley, age 96, of Albemarle, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Stanly Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 17236 Frog Pond Rd, Oakboro from 1 to 2 pm in the sanctuary and after the service in the fellowship hall. The funeral service will be at 2 pm, officiated by Dr. Wayne Bennett, Jr. and Dr. Phillip Hunter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Nola was born in Oakboro on February 18, 1916 to the late Joe Barbee and Emma Barbee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis J. Whitley in October 21, 1989; son Kenneth Whitley and his wife Carrol; three brothers, M.A. Barbee, J.T. Barbee, Billy Joe Barbee; and two sisters Lela Whitley and Leola Smith. Nola is survived by her daughter, Annette Hatley and husband Ed; grandson, Mark Whitley and his wife Nancy; great-grandson, Chris Whitley; great-grand daughter, Mary Beth Lipscomb and her husband Charles; and five sisters, Geneva Eudy, Ruth Teeter, Rella Huneycutt, Gatha Whitley and Avinell Whitley and her husband Tommy. Nola was a loving mother, grandmother and faithful wife. She was a very hard worker at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill and later at Oakboro Knitting Mill. At home Nola enjoyed working in her yard and flowers. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice of Troy, 533 S.
