Norman John Gedney, 88, of 4968 Jerod Ct, Concord, NC passed away January 31, 2010, at CMC Northeast Medical Center in Concord. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord, NC. Burial will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Syracuse, NY. The service will be officiated by Rev. David Cunha. Mr. Gedney was born April 2, 1921 in Onondaga County, NY to the late Charles William Gedney and the late Beatrice Irene Rouse Gedney. He served in WWII as 1st Sgt. In the 5th Air Force Service Squadron. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his daughter- Nancy Burleson of Albemarle, sister- Beatrice Cicarelli of Syracuse, NY, grandchildren- Eric S. Woodward and his wife Stacie, Jeffrey M. Woodward and Sarah W. Merrill. Mr. Gedney had three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
