Norris Layton Joyner, age 77, of Concord passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Five Oaks Nursing Center. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 9 to 11 AM at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Thomas Gibbs and Rev. David Allen Thompson, will follow at 11 AM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. He will be buried at Howellâs Missionary Baptist Church, with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. Norris was born in Cabarrus County on December 19, 1934, to the late John McCurdy Joyner and the late Lula Venore Layton Joyner. He is preceded in death by his three sisters, Foy Kelly, Adele Polk, Letha Estridge; and brother, Frank Joyner. He is survived by his brother, Thomas âArchieâ Joyner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norris enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and sharing his vegetables with friends. He was an avid hunter and bee-keeper. He also enjoyed gospel singing and took great pride in his artistic masonry and stone work. Norris served his country honorably in the Army.
