Odean Hestikind

Odean "Lefty" Orvall Hestikind, 82 years of age, of Locust, formerly of Buffalo Township, Wisconsin, Carolina Beach, and Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at his home in Locust surrounded by his family.

Dean was born February 6, 1933 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin to Emil Hestikind and Maryan Kloss Hestikind Hankins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Martha Hestikind, in January of 2014; two brothers; and one sister.

The graveside service, officiated by Rev. David Jones, will be at 11 am on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery, 20015 Coley Store Road, Locust, NC.

He is survived by his daughters, Marsha Dry and husband Jack of Locust, Cheryl Shue and husband Mark of Locust; sons, James D. Hestikind of Charlotte and Robert Hestikind and wife Lynn of Castle Hayne; brother, Ivan Hestikind of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Audrey Grimm of Kent, WA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Joyce Burchett of Charlotte.

Dean was an original member of the US Army Special Forces and Airborne beginning in 1952. He was extremely proud of his SF service and all SF soldiers. He served in the 77th SF Group, H & H Company.

Dean loved sports of all types. He was an avid golfer. One of his greatest joys was mentoring and coaching young men to become responsible adults.

Daddy, we cherished you and will miss you.
