Ola Brooks Parker Helms, age 96 of Oakboro, NC passed away October 12, 2010 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Albemarle. She was born in Oakboro, NC to the late Dee and Martha Smith Brooks, November 14, 1913. Her first marriage was to the late J.W. “Will” Parker and they had one son, Ted Norris Parker. Her second marriage was to Clifford Helms of Marshville. She is survived by her son Ted Parker and wife Jewel, step children are Geraldine Staton and husband Roy, Charles C. Helms and wife Carole, Shirley Griffin and husband J.C. and daughter-in-law Eleanor Helms, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Marie Brooks Efird and husband Fred and a great number of nephews and nieces. In addition to her husbands and parents she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Adian Parker, stepson Johnny Helms, one step grandson, Cliff Helms, five sisters, Emma Davis, Rosa Smith, Jacqueline King and twin sisters Mae Helms Ledbetter and Myrtle Tucker, three brothers, Claude, Julian and Roy Brooks. Mrs. Helms was an active loving member of Oakboro First Baptist Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and an artist in many areas. She made an afghan for each of her grandchildren and others. She loved to read, her family, her friends and her Lord. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Oakboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Terrell Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Oakboro Cemetery. At other times the family will meet at the home of the son, Ted Parker, 204 Ninth St, Oakboro, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St. Albemarle, NC 28001 or Oakboro First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 10, Oakboro, NC 28129.
