Onie Towell, Jr

O.C. “Red” Towell, Jr., 91, of 5374 Highway 49 South, Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010, at CMC-Northeast.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 25 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26 at New Harvest Church in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Mike Parks officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Harrisburg. At other times, the family will be meeting at 910 Patricia Ave., Harrisburg.

Mr. Towell was born on March 10, 1918, in Rowan County to the late Onie Carl Towell, Sr., and the late Beaulah Shuping Towell. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. He worked in automobile sales and was a member of New Harvest Church. He was also a member of Cabarrus Lodge #720 A.F. & A.M. and a Scottish Rite Mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Towell.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Sloop Towell, of the home; sons, Guy Norman Towell, Sr., of Harrisburg, and Onie Clinton Towell, of Charlotte; brother, Ralph M. Towell, Sr., of Fayetteville, GA; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
