Onie Watkins

Onie Faye Watkins, 76 of Midland, NC passed away on February 23, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast in Concord. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 24 from 6-8 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home. The service will be held Friday, February 25 at 2 PM at Coldwater Baptist Church following a 30-minute state. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Mint Hill. The Rev. Jim Posey and Rev. Jesse Watkins will officiate the services. Mrs. Watkins was born in Chesterfield County, SC on October 1, 1934 to the late Jesse and Ila Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Allen Watkins; sisters, Virginia Mae Crayton and Dillie Stone. During her life, she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Bethel Elementary School. She was also an avid bowler in the Wednesday Mourners bowling league. Mrs. Watkins is survived by her sons, Michael Allen Watkins and wife Susan of Midland, Patrick Cooper Watkins and wife Michelle of Concord; daughter, Vanessa Watkins Helms and husband Robert DuMont of China Grove; grandchildren, Jesse Watkins, Adriane Watkins, Brittany Helms, Ryker Helms; great-grandchild, Bella Watkins. Memorials may be made to Coldwater Baptist Church, 1045 Union Street South, Concord, NC 28025. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Watkins’ family.
