Ms. Opal Hamby Haynes, 81, of 231 Davidson Highway, Concord, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at CMC NorthEast. Born on February 29, 1929 in Ashe County to the late William Rudy and Mary Ann Spears Hamby. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Concord on Friday, June 5, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Leon Smith officiating. Internment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends will meet for food and fellowship at 3:00 pm on Friday at Northwest Baptist Church at 3500 Trinity Church Road. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County, PO Box 3104, Concord, NC 28025 or Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083. Opal was a retired cloth inspector from Cannon Mills. She was a member of Royal Oaks Baptist Church. She loved gardening, traveling, staying at her mountain house, cooking, and spending time with her friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Paul Lee Haynes. She is survived by sisters, Jessie Winebarger, of Baltimore, MD and Ora Spears, of Concord; niece and caregiver, Shirley Sorrow, of Concord, best friend and caregiver, Nancy Storms, of Concord and caregiver, Debbie Nix, of Concord.
