Ora Yow

Ora Lee Burgess Yow, 86 years of age, of Albemarle, NC, passed away at 9:47 am Thursday, February 4, 2016 at her home.

She was born Sunday, January 5,1930 in Oakboro N.C. to Robert Lee and Octa Ora Boone Burgess.

On April 16, 1949, she married Houston Alexander Yow and they were together until his death January 26, 2008. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by infant twin daughters Jeanette and Annette Yow, January 3,1952; a brother, Everette Brunson Burgess; and a sister, Dorothy Burgess Smith.

Mrs. Yow was a 1948 graduate of Oakboro High School, a homemaker, and formerly worked from her home as a seamstress. She enjoyed flowers, feeding and watching birds, collecting recipes, and will be remembered for her thoughtful ministry of sending cards to family and friends.

Mrs. Yow is survived by a daughter, Amelia Ann Yow Poplin and husband Claude Michael "Mike" Poplin of Albemarle, her caregivers for the past eight years, and two sisters Christeen Burgess Sasser and Brenda Burgess Burris, both of Oakboro.

She was a member of Barbee's Grove Baptist Church, a former member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, a former Sunday School and Bible School Teacher, and a former choir member.

There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Ron Honeycutt.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
