Oscar Kennedy, 77 years of age, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Universal Healthcare in Concord.

Oscar was born November 2, 1937 in Vrendenburg, Alabama to the late W. B. Kennedy and Virginia Parnell Kennedy. He was also preceded in death by a son, Oscar Kennedy, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy; son, Robert Chambers; daughters, Alicia Poe, Antionette Fowler, Tracy Bryant and Ja' Don Chambers; brothers, JT Kennedy and Luther Etheridge; sister, Cealie Jones; sisters-in-law, Clementine Kennedy and Patricia Smith; daughter-in-law,Regine Chambers; son-in-law, Eric Poe; grandchildren, Shavard Chambers, Imani Collins, Shadiyah Chambers, Jalen Chambers, Giovanni Collins, Sariah Poe, Dudora, and Erika Poe; great-grandchild, Tamia Chambers, and a host of other grands, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and Sun Son Kennedy, his faithful companion, who is truly missing him.

Oscar moved to NYC (Brooklyn), where he became a meat handler in the NYC Market on 14th Street and also in Hunts Point in the Bronx for many years. He became quite involved in the Meat Handlers Union.

Oscar and Jackie met in 1982. They were married and were together for thirty-three years. They moved to Redwood City, California in 1996 where Oscar made many friends. Oscar loved gardening and making wine. He also loved talking to the young men, encouraging them to be better. He was A MAN'S MAN.

On July 30, 2015, Oscar became ill and after many procedures and several stays in the hospital, God picked another one of HIS precious flowers to be with HIM in HIS garden. Oscar left us on October 7, 2015 at 6:50 pm.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will start at 12:30 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Rutherford Memorial Park, Concord, NC.

The family wishes to express with grateful hearts their sincere thanks to the Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, New Heaven Community COGIC, and their many friends and neighbors for the kindness shown them during their time of bereavement.
