Oscar Pardes "O.P." Charles, 86, of Mount Gilead, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 at his home.
O.P. was born October 29, 1935 in Del Rio, Texas to the late Samuel Charles and the late Eloisa Prades Charles.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Celia; brothers, Reginald Charles and Alfredo Charles; and sister, Angelica Martinez.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Wayne Lisenby.
Survivors include children, Fred Charles of Milpitas, CA; Sylvia Charles of Mount Gilead, NC, Sam Charles (Christy) of Albemarle, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Bradley (Travis), Skye Merino (Steve), Nathaniel Yarber, and Andrew Charles; great-grandchildren, Kyle , Bentley, and Trevor Bradley, and Azul and Evan Marino; siblings, Gloria Garcia, Robert Charles, Mary Sanchez, and Orfa Vargas; and extended family, Zachary Scott, Tesia Talbert, Kaitlin Deberry.
O.P. served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War. He was a member of Moose Lodge Post #1838 in Rockingham, VFW #2908 in Albemarle, AMVETS Post #910 in Albemarle, the Shriners in Albemarle, and Masonic Lodge #194 (Scottish Rite) in Mt. View, CA. O.P. was also known as a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team and L.A. Dodgers baseball team. He retired from PLP in 2002 after 42 years, holding the PLP record for longest employement.
