Ovey Roy Kindley, 100 years of age, went to be with his Heavenly Father and his loving wife of 64 years, the late Melissa Clontz Kindley, Thursday, February 23, 2012 from the Hospice House in Monroe. Mr. Kindley was born September 7, 1911 in Anson County to the late Robert Fletcher Kindley and the late Daisy House Kindley of Indian Trail. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Kindley; his sister, Mary Hargett Stilwell; five half brothers and three half sisters. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, February 26, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at Zion United Methodist Church of Monroe. Rev. David McCauley will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family of friends will be given the opportunity to speak on behalf of their loved one during the service. At other times, the family will meet at the home of Virginia Braswell at 8316 Unionville Brief Road of Monroe. Mr. Kindley is survived by his six children; Mary Kizer of Charlotte, Virginia Braswell and her husband, Bengie, Robert Alonzo Kindley and his wife, Elsie, Faye Broadway and her husband, Charles, and Grady Kindley all of Monroe, and Dean Kindley of Tallahassee, Florida; 17 grandchildren, Anne Lalamas, Milton Kizer and his wife, Linda, Bryan Braswell and his wife, Wanda, Vada Tucker and her husband, David, Melia Haigler and her husband, Sidney, Robert Kindley, Teresa Goldner, Anita Lathan and her husband, Eric, Charles Broadway, II and his wife, Kim, Chris Broadway and his wife, Kristy, Debbie Cunningham, Libby Mullis, Mitchell Broadway and his wife, Candace, Tammy Bramblett and her husband, Bill, Tommy Holshouser, Kara Lemon and her husband, Bill, and Krista Kindley; 24 great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Kindley graduated from Indian Trail High School in 1929, skipped the seventh grade by taking a passing test that was offered. He helped his father in his shop repairing farm tools and on the family farm. After his marriage to Melissa, he resided in the Fairview Community on 700 Roy Kindley Road until November 2010 when he moved to an assisted living facility. He went to work in Charlotte in 1937 at Schoenith Candy Company as a shipping clerk until 1952 when the company went out of business and then went to Great Southern Trucking which later became Ryder Truck Lines as a local pick up and delivery driver, retiring in 1973. He was a very active member of Zion United Methodist Church, holding many positions in the church of which one was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. In the year 2000 he donated land to the church on which the church parsonage was built. He loved life, and his family, his church family, the community family and everyone he ever met. He appreciated so much all the help he received from the staff of the care facilities.
