Parks Howie, Sr

Parks Hunter Howie, Sr., 86, of Harrisburg, NC died after an extended illness early Friday morning, December 8, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC with his family by his side.

Mr. Howie was born, Thursday April 9, 1931 in Harrisburg, NC to the late Walter Franklin and Barbara Elizabeth (Hunter) Howie.

On June 27, 1954 in Charlotte, NC, he married his loving wife, of 63 years, the former Carolyn E. Osborne who survives.

Mr. Howie honorably served his country in the United States Marines as a sergeant during the Korean War where he served as a demolition expert.

He leaves behind, to treasure his memory, his six loving children, Jim (Ellen) Wolfe of Waynesville, Beth (Don) Alexander of Hollis, Jeanne (Gary Honeycutt) Howie of Albemarle, Rebecca Beard of Huntersville, Hunter (Robin) Howie and Tracy Howie all of Concord, NC. He is also survived by nine loving grandchildren, Jon (Mandy) Wolfe, Mary Katherine (Gordon) Hale, Justin Alexander, Andrea (Jeff) McCumber, Catherine (David Nielsen) Alexander, Ben (Taylor) Beard, Weston Beard, Jesse Beard and Matthew Howie; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, Mia, Hannah, Abigail, Chandler and Parks; one brother, Franklin (Betty) Howie of Harrisburg, NC. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and a daughter, Sandra O. Howie who died June 10, 1958 and one brother, Jeremiah "Jerry" Howie.

Funeral services for Mr. Howie will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Homes, 12115 University City Blvd. Harrisburg, NC with Dr. James Sample, Rev. Andrea McCumber and Rev. Jeff McCumber officiating. The family will receive guests in the funeral home chapel that afternoon from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. Burial will follow in Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Harrisburg, NC with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Howie to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Parks will forever be missed by his loving an devoted family and many dear friends. May God grant him eternal rest.
