Pastor Johnnie J. Morton, 93, left the Tucker Hospice House on Sunday, December 22, 2013, to be with the Lord that he has faithfully loved and served the past 65 years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 12:00pm until 1:30pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A service of celebration will be held at 2:00pm at New Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Montgomery officiating. He was born April 15, 1920 in Lancaster, South Carolina the son of the late Enoch Willis Morton and Rebecca Kimmer Morton. He was the last surviving member of the Morton Family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Faye Mullis Morton. She was the one who loved and prayed for his salvation for 5 years. She faithfully stood by him, loved and supported him in his ministry until her death in 2010. Pastor Morton organized the Bright Light Baptist Church on April 6, 1952 where he served for the next 38 years before his retirement. He continued in evangelistic work, but being discontent because he didn't " Have his own little sheep", he organized New Grace Baptist Church on April 1, 1990 where he pastored for the next 15 years. His greated joy in life was to attend God's House. He only missed 6 Sundays in 65 years, all due to hospitalizations He is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Jack) Cooper of Concord and Charlotte LaDawn Hampton of Concord, NC; a grandson, Errol (Marlena) Cooper; two granddaughter, Jacinda Stremovihtg and Michelle (Allen) James, seven great grandchildren and one great - great granddaughter. Our heartfelt thanks to Laurel, Shannon, Sherry and Nancy at Troutman's Barbecue Hwy 601 who have for the last two years added joy to his life on a daily basis. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Morton family.
