Paul Thompson

Paul Leonard Thompson, age 89, of Oakboro, N.C., died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, N.C. Thompson was employed by Fieldcrest Cannon Mills, Concord. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. He served in the Army during World War II. Born in 1919 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Lewis Thompson and the late Jennie Morton Thompson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Alton Lewis Thompson. He is survived by his wife Sally Hatley Thompson; Son-Tony Leonard Thompson of Stanfield, N.C. Half Sister-Marie Kimrey of Norwood, N.C. Grandchild-Troy Thompson and wife Wendy Grandchild-Shelley Basinger and husband Tony Grandchild-Mire Williams and wife Tamra Grandchild-Mark Thompson and wife Angie Nine great-grandchildren Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home - Albemarle, P. O. Box 7, Albemarle, N.C., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, May 30, 2009. Funeral service with a 30 minute state will be at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 31, 2009 , Rev. Terry Burris Mr. Leonard Harvell officiating. Interment will be at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro, N.C. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jusde Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
