Pauline Little Drye, 98, of Monroe, Union County, passed away in the Jesse Helms Nursing Center August 19, 2009. Mrs. Drye was born May 3, 1911, in Union County to Arthur Elijah Little and Ada Mae Medlin Little. Her mother passed away at the age of 99.5 years. Mrs. Drye had two sisters who preceded her in death; Ona Leigh Little Clontz, and Nell Little Helms. Mrs. Drye served in the U. S. Navy Intelligience during World War II. She then attended UNC Greensboro and earned an associates degree with an emphasis in medical transcription. She worked at Miller Clinic in Charlotte for several years. She married Vernon Talford Drye in December 1949. He passed away in 1998. They had no children. Mrs. Drye entered Jesse Helms Nursing Cemter in 1998. She is survived by six nieces; Florine Clontz Crooke, Beverly Clontz Carnes, Julia Clontz Hinson, and Rhonda D. Helms, all of Monroe, Debra Helms Gaskins of Washington, NC, Melanie Helms Hurley, of Wendell, NC, and one nephew; James David Clontz of Monroe. Another niece, Alice Clontz Blackmon, died in April, 2002. The service was in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Midland, August 22, 2009, officiated by Elder Larry Austin.
