Pearl Patricia Murphy

Pearl Patricia "Pat" Murphy, 82, of Concord, NC passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024.

On January 29, 1942, in Asheville, North Carolina, Pearl Patricia Murphy was born to the late William Kenneth and Ruby Lee Murphy. Pat was the second of five children. Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Carl Murphy, and her sister, Elizabeth James. She is survived by her loving sister Revonda (Roger) Moody. As a child, Pat loved to dance, sing, and play cards - especially double solitaire - where her only goal was to be the winner!

The greatest joy of Pat’s life was her family. Pat’s first son, Jesse Dale “Pete” Murphy was born on December 25, 1959. Fifteen months later on March 6, 1961, Pat welcomed her oldest daughter, the late Donna Doreen Murphy English. On November 6, 1962, a second son, Benjamin Russell Smith, was born. Six and a half years later, on April 28, 1970, Pat’s second daughter, the late Pamela Lee Sherlin Collins, completed their family. 

In addition to her children, Pat’s grandchildren and great children were the joy of her life. She is survived by her loving grandchildren: Jesse Carroll Harrington, Rebecca Patricia James (Patrick) Kyle, Amanda Danielle Smith (David Lee) Dover, Miranda Desiree Murphy, and Revonda Na’Chelle Sherlin. Pat’s great grandchildren are Amara Kyle, Brayden Dover, and James Kyle. 

Pat is also survived by nieces and nephews, Clint (Susan) Sherlin, Rita Goins, Charmaine (the late Ricky) Daniels, Mark (Kerri) Murphy, Michelle (Robert) Miller, the late Sheila Morrell, Brian (Stacey) Moody, Angela (Kris) Winters, Brooke (Joe) Mlaka, and numerous great nieces and nephews. 

Pat was an avid collector of things that she loved, including Elvis, mice, Coke products, decorative eggs, gnomes, and movies. She is remembered for her quick wit, no nonsense - straight forward manner, and her favorite one finger salute. Pat loved gardening and seemed to have ten green thumbs. One of her greatest accomplishments though was touching the lives of countless children that she kept over the years. 

Pat’s memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. She will never be forgotten.
