Peggy Ann Crayton Smith

Peggy Ann Crayton Smith, age 86 of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Novant Health Forsyth Hospital, due to injuries resulting from a fall.

Peggy was born on March 12, 1937, in Stanly County, NC, to the late Floyd Crayton and Viola Hinson. She married her soul mate, Bobby Kenneth Smith, on July 23, 1955.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby; her son-in-law, Michael McDonald; sister, Jackie Thompson; and two brothers, Vance Crayton and Keith Crayton.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tari McDonald, of Clemmons, NC; son, Todd Smith (Belinda), of North Myrtle Beach, SC; grandsons, Shawn McDonald (Dawn) of Clemmons, NC, and Zakary Smith (Sierra); brother, Jerry Crayton (Agnes); and godson, Reverend Rhett Thompson, of Panama.

Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother who leaves behind lots of family and friends, including many friends she and Bobby met while traveling around the world during his U.S. Army career. Peggy loved life and found joy in everything, especially her two grandsons, her flowers, doing puzzles, cheering on the UNC Tar Heels and the color blue. She will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Forsyth Hospital.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Matthew Pope will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle, NC. Visitation with family will immediately follow. A private burial at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery will be held after the service and visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Operation Heal Our Patriots or the Cemetery Fund at Mission Baptist Church, 12444 Mission Church Rd, Locust, NC 28097 .
