Philas Hartsell

August 24, 1925 — July 4, 2014


Philas Jackson Hartsell, 88 years of age, of Midland, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital Main in Charlotte.

Jack was born August 24, 1925 in North Carolina to the late Herbert Jackson Hartsell and the late Laura Delette Black Hartsell.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Frances Ramelle "Monk" Hartsell, and brother, Robert Hartsell.

Jack began working at an early age at Hartsell Funeral Home when it provided ambulance services to the community. The funeral home was a major part of his life. Jack also enjoyed gardening, and going to his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a veteran of the US Navy.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, July 7, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Stanfield officiated by Rev. Bruce League. The service will be preceded by a 30 minute state. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Cemetery at 200 Hwy. 200 North, Stanfield. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.

Survivors include son, Richard Jackson (Jane) Hartsell of Midland; daughter, Susan (Michael) Redden of Monroe; daughter, Nan (Scott) Vuncannon of Monroe; granchildren, Jackson and Maggie Vuncannon; grandchildren, Lucas, Matthew, and Sam Fisher; brother, James Ervin Hartsell of Midland; sisters, Rose Wagner, Jane Bates, Betty Hase; and Gaye Irvin.
