Phillip Ritchie Carter, 77, of Monroe, passed away on May 7, 2021 at Atrium Health in Monroe, NC.
He was born on June 1, 1943 to Phillip and Mary (Thomas) Carter in Carolina Beach, NC. Phillip worked as a Painter and owned his own business for many years in which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was known for loving the outdoors and always enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a charter member and Deacon of West Stanly Baptist Church, where his love and dedication never wavered. Phillip also volunteered with the coast guard for 15 years providing his time, energy, and support to his country. Phillip will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Phillip is survived by his loving spouse of 21 years Leona; daughter, Pam (Harold) Harwood; son, Mark Carter, Sr.; stepson, Donald Lynn Strawn; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Ann Hargett (Ricky) and Donna (Tony) Boone, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Phillip Ritchie Carter, Sr., mother, Mary Jane Carter, brother, Randy Glenn Carter, and grandsons, Mark Carter, Jr. and Jerry Wayne Strawn.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021, 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm at West Stanly Baptist Church, Albemarle. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Warren W. Brown Jr. and Rev. Phillip Brooks officiating. Burial will take place in the West Stanly Baptist Church Cemetery.
