Phyllis Nichols

Phyllis Safrit Nichols, 87, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at home with family by her side.

Phyl was born April 3, 1933 in Cabarrus County to the late Walter and Lucille Safrit.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gerald Nichols, and sister, Sue Mayfield.

Phyl graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College.  After graduation, she enjoyed working as a secretary for Betty Feezer at WBT.  She left WBT to lovingly raise her children, Phil and Jerri.  She loved traveling, camping and surf-fishing, especially at Cape Lookout or the Outer Banks with family and friends, but especially with the love of her life and best friend, Gerald.  Phyl retired as a secretary with Standard Trucking Company.  She had a huge heart and a soft spot for pets.  Phyl was also very artistic and crafty.  Most of all, she loved being a mom and grandmother.  Phyl will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Survivors include her son, Philip Nichols and wife, Cindy, of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Jerri Nichols of Harrisburg, NC; grandson, Trey Nichols and wife, Stephanie; grandson, Ryan Nichols; grandson, Taylor Nichols and wife, Mikayla; and granddaughter, Morgan Nichols and fiancé, Adam Leonard.

A private memorial service in celebration of Phyl's life will be held at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Meg Shaw Skidmore.  Phyllis will be laid to rest during a private committal service at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
