R. Yow

R. J. Yow, 86, of Stanfield, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord.

R. J. was born May 22, 1930 in Stanly County to the late Poney Wilson Yow and the late Emmer Grace Yow. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty Sue Yow Yow, who passed away in 2009; his devoted and loving daughter, Terry Greene, who passed away in 1998; sisters, Pauline Kiker and Lorrine Aldridge; and adopted brother, Don Privett.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Kinza Memorial Baptist Church, 4311 Love Mill Rd., Stanfield. The funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Dr. Darrell Nance. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. R. J. will lie in state from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home of his son-in-law, Bill Greene, 16131 Pless Mill Rd., Stanfield.

He is survived by his son-in-law, Bill Greene and wife Mary of Stanfield; grandson, Bryan Greene and wife Joy of Trinity; granddaughter, Julie Greene Huneycutt and husband Ron of Albemarle; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Ellie, Abbie, and Sam; sister, Vida Williams of Locust, Bobbie Clontz of Stanfield; brother, Louis Yow and wife Linda of Stanfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

R. J. was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He worked at Oakboro Auto as a detailer, and was a faithful member of Kinza Memorial Baptist Church. He was very active in his church as long as his health permitted, serving as a deacon and was a member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He was an avid fisherman, and also loved going to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
