Ralph Carter, Sr.

November 6, 1931 — March 7, 2020

Ralph Richard Carter, Sr., 88, of Charlotte, NC completed his journey on earth on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate surrounded by his loving family.

Ralph was born November 6, 1931 in Stony Point, NC to the late William Fletcher Carter and the late Edith Mae Honeycutt Carter.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Faust Carter; brothers, Homer Carter, Bobby Carter and Albert Carter; sisters, Lorane Carter Hamilton, Margaret Carter Lynn and Betty Jean Carter.

Survivors include his fiancee Joann Sanders; son, R. Richard Carter, Jr. and wife Donna; daughter, Gwen Carter; grandchildren, Danielle Carter DeVaney and husband Cam; Chasity Renea Carter; Timothy Creech and Cyndel; Shane Creech and wife Sara; great grandchildren, Max DeVaney, J.R. Creech, Alex DeVaney, AnnaKaye Bostick and LouElla Creech; bonus children, Melanie Shumaker and family; and Scott Sanders; as well as sister, Kay Carter Williams; and brother, Jerry Carter and wife Kay.

Mr. Carter proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Wisconsin.  He was a Mason for 41 years of Benton Lodge in Timmonsville, SC.  Ralph was a lifetime member of American Legion, Post 47; and former councilman and mayor of Timmonsville.  He enjoyed long walks, playing golf and going fishing with his family.  He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A service will be held at St Paul Episcopal church, 218 2nd Street, Smithfield, N.C. 27577 at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday the 14 of March.  Internment to follow in the garden.   Family will receive in fellowship hall after service.  Memorials in Mr. Carter's honor may be made to your favorite charity of choice.
