Ramelle Burleson Freeman, 87 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital in Charlotte.
Ramelle was born April 17, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Homer Cleveland Burleson and the late Ethel Verona Efird Burleson. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gordon Blythe Hatley; four brothers; and two sisters.
The graveside service, officiated by Rev. Mark Mabry, will be at 1 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Canton Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her sisters, Sue Page and husband Harold of Norwood, Carolyn Slack of Albemarle; brother, Retha Lewis Burleson and wife Lois of Albemarle; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Ramelle graduated from Endy School in 1945 as valedictorian of her class and was the captain of the championship girls basketball team. She attended Morgan's Business College in Albemarle. She worked at Savannah River Project in Aiken, SC for 6 years. She then worked for Brafford, Odom & Co. in Albemarle as an accounting technician, retiring in 1999. Ramelle was a charter member of the Stanly County Council on the Status of Women, and was the first Republican woman appointed to the Stanly County Board of Elections in 1983. She was a faithful member of Canton Baptist Church. Ramelle enjoyed cooking, gardening, boating, and water skiing.
