Rebecca Martin Aycoth, 95, passed away at home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Rebecca was born on December 15, 1928, to the late James Bennett Martin and Diana (Anna) Parker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Flake Thomas and her second husband, Leroy Aycoth.
Rebecca loved to garden and could often be found picking flowers at the old log house, (Jim Allen Place) where she was born when her favorite flowers, buttercups, were in bloom. As the summer season progressed, she would again spend her time at the old log house picking the blackberries that she so loved and enjoyed. A pianist for over 70 years, Rebecca also taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was involved with the Ladies Class at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Polkton, NC. She loved children and teaching these classes brought her much joy. A member of the Women’s Missions Union, she enjoyed quilting and has a quilt that is nearly finished in the basement of the home.
Rebecca is survived by her brother, Edison Martin, also of Polkton, NC.
The funeral service is Thursday, January 18, at 11:00 am at Rocky Mount Baptist Church located in Polkton, NC. It will be officiated by Reverand Marty Quick with burial following at the church cemetery. A reception for the receiving of friends will be held in the church fellowship hall from 12:00 - 2:00 pm following the service.
