Reece Blair Godwin, 74 years of age, left this earth to be in the presence of Jesus on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his home in Stanfield after a long battle of illness. Mr. Godwin was born April 22, 1937 in Union County to the late Joseph Albert Godwin and the late Lizzie Marie Hinson Godwin. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Wyndola Anderson Godwin, in 2005. He graduated from New Salem High School and retired from Lowe’s, Inc. He was a long time member of Big Lick Baptist Church. He enjoyed antique cars, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, at the cemetery of Big Lick Baptist Church. The graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Jeff Springer. At other times, the family will meet at his home. He is survived by his son, Nelson Blair Godwin and his wife, Danea, of Stanfield; his grandson, Luke Blair Godwin and his granddaughter, Gracey Danea Godwin; his brothers, James Godwin and his wife, Evelyn, of Peachland, Ervin Godwin and his wife, Loraine, of Mocksville, John Godwin and his wife, Judy, of Locust, and Gerald Godwin and his wife, Ann, of Oakboro; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kenny Page, of Stanfield. The family would like to say thank you to all the people who assisted in the care of Mr. Godwin during his last days on earth, especially Hospice of Stanly County.
