Reece Smith, Sr

Reece Love Smith, Sr., 91 years of age, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast. Reece was born March 19, 1922 in Stanly County to the late Lonnie Josiah Smtih and the late Belzora Love Smith. He was also preceded in death by brother, Melvin Smith; one grandchild; and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. George Townsend officiating. The burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, with Military Honors conducted by the NC National Guard. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Nona Rachel Hatley Smith of the home; sons, Reece Smith, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Concord, Rev. James Smith and wife Connie of Dillon, SC; daughter, Judy Smith Shue and husband Stephen of Concord; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Reece was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII in the Pacific, and was the recipient of two Purple Heart Medals.
