Rev. Michael Burris

Michael Franklin Burris, 60 years of age, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2015. Mike was the true example of a disciple of Jesus Christ. He had an infinite passion for all people and never met a stranger. He cared about and drew people to himself because he judged no one and had the deepest respect for all. Known as "Pastor Mike" to most, he often proclaimed himself as "Rabbi Mike". Mike was called by God at an early age, but like so many of us, he took a detour. When God yanked him back on the right path, yes I mean yanked him hard, Mike submitted everything to God and spent the remainder of his days with a fervor for God's Word and His people. Mike began his ministry at Love's Grove UMC and later became an Elder of the United Methodist Church and served Green Memorial UMC in Aquadale, Cedar Grove UMC in Norwood and Pine Woods UMC in Thomasville. He helped to establish Bridge to Recovery in Oakboro, NC.
Mike was born September 29, 1955 in North Carolina to the late Roy "Short" Burris and the late Betty Morgan Burris. He was also preceded in death by a son, Troy Burris. He is survived by his wife Kathy Burris; two sons Marcus and Joshua Burris; two step daughters Emily Tucker (husband Chris), and Caroline Love (husband Chad); four grandchildren; sister Doretha McCoy (husband Randy); brother Randy Burris (wife Alison); as well as five nieces and two nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Love's Grove United Methodist Church in Stanfield, officiated by Rev. Jim White and Rev. Ron Drye. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Pine Woods UMC in Thomasville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bridge to Recovery, PO Box 322, Albemarle, NC 28002 or Pine Woods UMC in Thomasville, NC.
