Richard Lee Calkins, 85, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.
Mr. Calkins was born February 22, 1938 in Buffalo, New York to the late Nathan Lee Calkins and Helen Marie Yaw Calkins.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Carolyn Joyce Calkins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church, located at 1428 Old Charlotte Rd., Concord, NC on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:30pm.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in East Aurora, New York with the Kenneth Howe Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery - New York at Wales Center next to his beloved wife.
Survivors include: sister, June (Warren, dec.) Minton of Delevan, NY; sons, Brian Calkins of Concord, NC and Christopher (Donna) Calkins of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Marlene (Stephen) LaRue of Lockhart, SC; grandson, Joshua and great-grandchildren, Bruce, Nash and Josephine, all of New York State.
Mr. Calkins was in the Farming and Agriculture Business for over 50 years. He nourished the world one crop at a time. He was educated in Holstein Cow Health, Breeding, and Milk Production Sciences.
Mr. Calkins was known as a hardworking man of God, a best friend to everyone, the best father and husband many folks ever knew. His children are grateful and blessed with the love and memories for years to come.
In later years, Mr. Calkins favorite past time was to go to the Breakfast Time in Salisbury and visit close friends and Shirley several times a week. He will be sorely missed by all.
