Richard Coats, Sr.

Richard Raymond Coats Sr., 64, of Concord, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, after fighting a long battle with cancer. Richard was born on May 25, 1957, to parents William “Buddy” Coats and Rita Clark.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his many classic hot rods, cooking for, and feeding any and every one. He loved making people laugh and never met a stranger. He was an employee of Purdue Farms for 20+ years, as the Lead Mechanical Supervisor. He spent 27 years with his beloved wife Sandra Kay Coats.

Richard was reunited with his wife, Sandra Kay Coats and leaves behind his children; Jody Coats, Jessica Coats, Hailey Coats Watkins, Richard Coats Jr., Rita Jimenez and Stephanie Coats Woods, as well as his 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald Coats, Esther Smith, Cyndi Hanft and predeceased in death by brothers William “Bill” Coats, Robert Coats, George Coats, and Bob Hanft.

Richard’s life will be celebrated by a visitation Monday, December 20, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg from 3:00pm-3:45pm with a service to follow at 4pm. He will be laid to rest in Saluda, SC Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 1:00pm at Butler United Methodist Church Cemetery
