Richard Willard Fleck (Sam), 84, formerly of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 15, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living in Concord, NC. Richard was born on April 17, 1932 in Youngstown, OH, to the late Harry Willard and Irmgard Marie (Yarnick) Fleck.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Theresa Anna (Ludwig) of Concord, NC; daughter Stacey Wilson and husband Joseph of Concord, NC; son Jeffrey Fleck and wife Sherri of Forest, VA; grandchildren Heather Marie and Brittany Nicole Wilson of Concord, NC; Kimberly Sierra, Ian Christopher, and Matthew Camden Fleck, all of Forest, VA; sisters Harriett Pinna and husband John, and Patricia Fleck, all of Johnstown, PA.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing in Central Pennsylvania, which included a number of citation-size trout and a consecutive 23 year stretch of harvesting an antlered deer. He also donated much of his free time volunteering in many service organizations, including Elks BPOE in Johnstown, PA and the United Way, as well as supporting various outreach programs sponsored by the Johnstown and Cambria County Sportsmen Associations, and he also collected for the Cell Phones for Soldiers program. Richard also enjoyed golfing with his friends and family, making many golf trips to SC and other places over the years. Richard retired from General Telephone in 1987, after many years of faithful service and many hours on the road supporting Sales and Marketing. After retirement, he continued to work in sales for Physicians and Dentists Service Bureau and Answering Service, supporting Johnstown area health-care providers with after-hours phone coverage.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to 24 Hours of Booty, a 24-hour cycling event that raises money for local and national cancer initiatives, where his granddaughter Brittany is the director of events, at https://events.24hoursofbooty.org/RichardFleck.
