Richard Helms

Richard “Rick” Reese Helms, 53, of 316 Jake Tucker Road, Midland, NC passed away on July 8, 2011 at CMC-Main in Charlotte, NC as the result of a recent automobile accident. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Sunday, July 10 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 12700 Idlebrook Road, Midland, NC 28107. The service will begin at 2 PM in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Lisk and Rev. Matt Lawing will officiate the services. Mr. Helms was born in Mecklenburg County on July 17, 1957. Mr. Helms was a graduate of Central Cabarrus High School in 1976. He played wheelchair basketball with the Carolina TarWheels throughout the world, and was recognized by Governor Jim Martin for his volunteer work in Cabarrus County Schools. Mr. Helms is survived by his parents, Wade and Joyce (Gardner) Black; brothers, Scott Helms and wife Lora of Charlotte, David Black and wife Debbie of Concord; niece, Kristen Black; nephew, Bryan Helms; and his Black Lab, Homer. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Helms.
