Richard Legassie

December 21, 1929 — March 8, 2016


Richard "Dick" Legassie, 86 years of age, currently of Concord, NC formerly of Caribou, ME and Shelton, CT, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Mr. Legassie was born December 21, 1929 in Caribou, ME to the late Fotuant Lagasse and the late Adrienne Lagasse. He was also preceded in death by his sister Norma Nugent and brother Robert Lagasse.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marlene Saunders Legassie; daughter Diana Schilkowski and husband Daniel; son David Legassie and wife Patricia; five grandsons, (the pride of his life) Gregory Schilkowski and wife Ericka; David Legassie, Jr. and wife Chrissy; Brian Legassie and wife Megan; Jeffrey Schilkowski; Gary Schilkowski and wife Lori; 15 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter; sisters Marion Gill and Joan Stairs; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dick proudly served during the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 677, Waterbury, CT, and VFW Post 9389 in Caribou, ME. Dick was also a retired truck driver with O & G Industries in Torrington, CT. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motorhome on the East Coast. He was an avid bluegrass enthusiast and country music fan. He played several instruments including the five string banjo, guitar and piano. Dick especially loved spending time with his family and we will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11:30am Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church 139 Manor Ave. SW, Concord, NC.
